Our Methodology

The Power of Our Methodology

Art + Design + Science + Collaboration + Joy

We use a dual approach: unique creative experiences for organizational change, groups, and education; and public art for broad outreach. Our work is always experiential, collaborative, interdisciplinary, stimulating, and joyful.

Creative Experiences

We believe in the power of art and design to engage people and create a culture that supports innovative solutions. Our methodology uses studio experiences that are full of play, exploration, and collaboration. Working with creative materials in a small team, you develop and represent an idea - even if it is intangible. Peer input and shared results build camaraderie and excitement. This joyful experience generates viable ideas and deep engagement, making participants feel successful.

We have facilitated workshops for groups ranging in size from 10 to 1,000, and range from 1 hour to a half day. Standing exercises that are used over time, like Message-in-a-bottle, reinforce workshops, and can be used in any context. We have worked in every type of venue, and we mean every type - here are a few: museums to offices to marinas to lecture halls to remote islands without infrastructure.

Public Art

Science is typically communicated in detail, with data, in places where you expect to find it - if you are looking. As we have seen, that does not get widespread outreach. We need to reach people where they are, in a way that excites but doesn’t overwhelm them, instantly.

Climate Creatives began with the notion that using public art would be an effective way to reach people and communicate data, and we were right! We use public art that communicates data in a flash, giving people insight on their own terms. Our participatory process deepens the impact by building community ownership. Using a train-the-trainer model and kits we scale our projects quickly and inexpensively.

STEAM Education

Our STEAM programs use the same studio methodology as our workshops and are interdisciplinary, team-based, hands-on, and open ended. Teacher training and kits allow for easy integration into curriculum and our exercises are used as co-curricular activities. We have worked with students from graduate schools down to after-school programs. We scale through a train-the-trainer model and kits. Our participatory public art projects have been used by students and teachers, including Rising Waters, ASK, and Missing!
