Migration, Susan Israel, Water Change

Art Ramble 2020

Art Ramble is an annual outdoor exhibition set along trails in the Hapgood Wright Town Forest in Concord, MA. Susan centered the exhibition on climate change, adapting the Umbrella’s chosen theme of “water” to become Water Change: Where Spirit, Nature, and Civilization Meet. She invited poet Joanne DeSimone Reynolds to participate, resulting in a companion poem for each installation.

Red and Black Revolution: Dazibao and Woodcuts From 1960s China

Fairbank Center for Chinese Studies, Harvard University, 2017

Susan saw these Dazibao (large character posters) and woodcuts in a private museum in Shanghai, and immediately knew she had to get an exhibition of them to Harvard University where she had majored in Chinese History. It took several years, but eventually the Dazibao were exhibited in a world debut, exhibited for the first time ever outside the owner’s collection. Susan designed the exhibition as well.
